Self Employment Program
The Self Employment Program is funded by the Province of BC and provides unemployed individuals with an opportunity to explore self employment and to learn how to start and maintain their own businesses.
This comprehensive and supportive program includes:
Orientation:
- A half-day workshop held every two weeks to give an overview of the Self Employment Program
- Must be referred to an Orientation by an Employment Case Manager

Assess Your Entrepreneurial Potential (AYEP):
- A five-day workshop
- Explore your business idea
- Create a concept paper
- Assess eligibility to receive up to 52 weeks of Self Employment Benefits and apply for Business Plan Development (BPD)
Business Plan Development (BPD):
- Ten weeks (3 weeks of class - 4 weeks of 1:1 - 3 weeks of review)
- Assess the viability of your business idea and create a comprehensive business plan
- Receive 10 weeks of Self Employment Benefits and apply for continued Benefits while starting your business
Start Your Business:
- Up to 42 weeks of Self Employment Benefits
- Workshops
- Mentoring, professional consulting and personal support
